Replace a siphon

Which siphon to choose?

In a shower or sink, the siphon fills with hair, food or soapy residues and ends up no longer fulfilling its role. It should be cleaned regularly. But after a while, the plastic or brass in which it is made eventually wear out. The odors come back up or he eventually runs away. The siphons are available in PVC or brass. The choice is often determined by the drain hose. Brass siphons, which are more expensive to buy, often clog up less easily than PVC siphons.

Some simple steps for an effective siphon change

In the case of a bathtub or shower, the change of the siphon is often accompanied by that of the drain, because these two elements are often sold in a kit. This is more difficult when it is a walk-in shower or a bathtub whose access hatch is not large enough. After unscrewing the defective siphon on both sides, you will need to change the seals. If they are not supplied with your new siphon, you will need to obtain them in advance, taking care that they are the correct diameter of your pipe. The first clamping ring is placed between the siphon and the seal. Once screwed, you can place the other seal on the nozzle which must be in contact with the receiver (sink or shower). After tightening the assembly, you can open the valve and check for leaks.
